IO KITCHEN

A modern residential kitchen is typically equipped with a stove, a sink with hot and cold running water, a refrigerator and kitchen cabinets arranged according to a modular design. Many households have a microwave oven, a dishwasher and other electric appliances. The main function of a kitchen is cooking or preparing food but it may also be used for dining and entertaining.
Is your hard-working kitchen getting cluttered and unmanageable? If you need more storage, but every cupboard, shelf, nook and cranny is filled, it's time to take a second look at your use of space. Chances are you can reorganize and reclaim more storage than you ever thought possible.
Well-planned cabinets, drawers and shelves maximize space, save steps and eliminate frustrating searches for necessary kitchen tools and gadgets. An organized kitchen doesn't cost a lot of money, but does require a practical plan to keep items handy and easy to reach.
At IO Furniture ltd, we manufacture state-of-the-art fitted kitchens using all elements of design.

Interpreting Spaces

Introduction
IO Furniture was founded in 1987 primarily as an interior design consultancy, because we recognized the need to guide individuals and corporate entities in interpreting their spaces efficiently to make them more functional and aesthetically pleasing. We are primarily furniture manufacturers, but we also provide interior design consultancy services for individual and corporate clients.
Design means different things to different people. Interior design is primarily a function of interpreting spaces to reflect the personality of the individuals occupying that space ensuring that any given space is put to its maximum function and aesthetic value and in so doing capturing the essence of the person or people using the space. However before you enter into this creative sphere it is important to learn the basic principles and elements of interior design.

The basic principles and elements of Interior Design
The basic principles and elements of design provide the framework for planning a space. The basic principles of interior design are balance, emphasis, rhythm, proportion, harmony and unity. The basic elements of design primarily consist of space, line, form, colour and texture.
The principle of balance has been effectively applied, when there is a visual equilibrium in the room. This equilibrium can be achieved when the weight attributed to the objects in the room is properly coordinated and when the elements are coordinated accordingly. Similarly, every room requires a focal point and this can be achieved through emphasis. The strategic use of the elements can also enhance the focal point of a room.
A room acquires rhythm through the repetition of line, form, colour or texture. It allows for the natural flow of objects throughout the room, which provide a sense of unity. The relationships of objects to each other in a room are also defined by proportion and scale. Proportion relates to how elements within an object relate to the object itself, whilst scale refers to the size of an object relative to the space in which it is located.

A well-designed space will contain all the elements and principles of design. The coordination and consistency of colour, pattern, shapes and sizes will ensure a sense of unity, harmony and rhythm.

Impact of a well-designed space
Most people underestimate the impact of interior design on those that interact with the space. The design of your environment can affect you physically and emotionally. We spend a great deal of time in our homes or workplaces and our surroundings have a real impact on our well-being and productivity. A well designed office space for example can induce more productivity and can facilitate the achievement of tasks. The same goes for spaces in the home. A well-designed kitchen, can make the cooking experience more pleasurable and efficient.
The elements and principles mentioned above can have a positive effect on our senses when strategically applied. It is well accepted that the choice of colours, lighting, textures and patterns can also influence emotions and promote focus and creativity, when properly administered.
Well-executed space planning cannot only be aesthetically pleasing, but it can be time-saving and practical. As more time is something that we all aspire to acquire, it is a wise step to get professional advice on planning your space.
